We tend to give... um... enthusiastic praise when our kids do something good or right. We find that this inspires them to do that same thing again. Not rocket science, I know.
In our efforts to teach Brennen to fold his arms during prayer over the last few months, we have not been forceful, but rather encouraging. It took him a while, but when he finally started to 'fold' his arms (really more of a cute tucking the fists under the chin), we got a little excited, with much clapping, 'yays', smiling, and 'good boys'. Well, whenever Brennen hears 'good boy', he smiles and claps his hands (following our example, I'm sure).
So, the end result is that now, whenever we say a prayer, Brennen will fold his arms for about 2 seconds, then spend the rest of the prayer laughing and clapping his hands, congratulating himself on being such a good boy. This, of course, just adds to the reverent spirit around us when we are praying.
Hmmm, we might need to rethink our teaching techniques....

Love it, love it, love it! I actually laughed out loud on this one. Kids are great. It seems to me that Alleah gets the most vocal when we say prayers. Where do they learn this type of a thing?
It's funny the things they pick up on. Too cute.
Yeah, we started just giving the praise after the prayer. The only way to keep the peace :)
