Youth Conference '08

This year, both Clint and I had to go to our ward youth conference . And as Brennen was still dependent on me for much of his nourishment at the time (he was just weaned last week), he got to join us as well. I opted to leave Tayson with his paternal grandparents in Vernal rather than take him along. So, in mid-August, we loaded up the car and headed off to Flaming Gorge, where we floated the Green River. We were thrilled to have 100% attendance from our youth, which is to say that all 3 of our young women, and all 2 of our young men attended. :) Our leaders outnumbered our youth as all three members of the bishopric were there, along with my first counselor Sheri, Clint, and myself (and of course, our little mascot, Brennen Duncan).
We camped in a nearby campground both Thursday and Friday night. This was the view from our campsite:

Check out this studly mountain man:

Our campsite had a very friendly squirrel (or was it a chipmunk?) who decided to help himself to a cup of hot chocolate left unattended:

On the 2nd of 3 days, we floated the Green River:

We had rented two boats, and each boat took two runs down the 7-mile stretch of the river (which contained a handful of very mild rapids). During the first run, Clint and I opted to stay behind with Brennen. So we drove the vehicles down to the pick-up site, then Clint waded upriver a bit to do some fishing, while Brennen and I settled down with the stroller and a book to wait. On the second run, a few of the more exhausted people stayed behind with Brennen, while Clint and took a turn rafting. It was exhausting, but great fun (especially with the water fight between the two boats instigated by yours truly).
